Bruneau Dunes

Bruneau Dunes State Park, in the high-country, shrub-steppe desert of southwest Idaho, is home to the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America, rising 470 feet above a couple small scenic lakes. There are various habitats of desert, dune, prairie, lake and marsh. Bruneau Dunes also has one of only two public observatories in Idaho and is available for astronomical observations. Star programs are conducted Friday and Saturday nights. The visitor center offers information on the sand dunes and birds of prey, insects, fossils, and wildlife found in this part of the state.

This will be a camping workshop at Bruneau Dunes State Park, with the facility of one of the cabins available for meetings, meals, and to get out of any inclement weather that may arise. We'll be photographing the dunes and surrounding area all day, including before sunrise and after sunset.

There is a $5.00 per car fee to enter the park. The Observatory program is $3 per person.

Recommendation: Bring a cot or sleeping pad if you intend to spend the night in the cabin (open floor plan) and a gas stove for cooking.
