India. Where some of the earliest signs of human civilization are found, dating back 9,000 years. A country which occupies the majority of the South Asian Subcontinent that crashed into Europe some 50 million years ago, driving up the Himalayas (and continues to do so). Home to a wide variety of peoples and cultures speaking over 1600 languages in an area a little more than 1/3 the size of the United States. And containing a range of habitats from subtropical dune deserts, tropical rainforest, and upland plains, to coastal and riparian areas and the tallest mountains in the world.
Join me and India photographer and resident Lalit Deshmukh as we explore the Heart of India, Madyha Pradesh. This area is the geographical heart of the country, containing the watersheds and catchments of many of India's major rivers. The state is rich in diverse forest habitats and a reservoir of biodiversity. A result of its natural riches, Madyha Pradesh is home to 9 National Parks and 25 natural reserves and sanctuaries.
We'll visit and photograph in two national parks with the highest densities of tigers in India. We'll have a near 100% guarantee to see and photograph tigers up close and personal from our safari jeeps. Other wildlife we may photograph are the sloth bear, leopard, golden jackal, bengal fox, wild boar, spotted deer (Cheetal), black buck, sambar deer, gaur (wild ox), a variety of monkeys, and more, plus many of the over 200 species of birds and over 200 species of flowering plants found in this region. One of the parks, Kanha, was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling to write his most famous novel, The Jungle Book.
We'll hike among ancient temples, photographing intricately-carved architecture thought to be 2500 years old. We'll explore a "Temple of Love" at Khajuraho, and a
temple to love (and one of the Seven Wonders of the World), the grand Taj Mahal in Agra. We'll also visit the imposing Red Fort and at Khajuraho attend a traditional dance of the region.
During this workshop, Lalit and I will assist you with camera operation, composition, setting exposures for difficult lighting situations, lens, shutter and aperture selection, exploring your personal vision, long exposure, time lapse, filter use, understanding the light meter, digital processing and workflow and more.
