HDR photography is one of the most popular tools in digital photography to increase the dynamic and tonal range in your photographs and create interesting and wild effects. In this workshop, topics that will be covered are:
We'll spend the afternoon and evening of the first day in class covering background, technique, and application details, then go out for some photographing the following morning in one of Portland's beautiful forest parks. During mid-day we'll process the files from our morning shoot. Following that session, we'll head to downtown Portland for some evening cityscape HDR. The final morning and mid-day will be spent finishing up processing, answering questions, and a review and feedback session.
This workshop will be based at the quirky and fun McMenamin's Kennedy School, an historic, 1915-era elementary school turned boutique hotel. The school (outside and inside) is a photographic subject in itself; especially the pipes and fittings of the Boiler Room Bar.
You will need a digital camera that allows you to manually change the exposure (A digital SLR is best, but compact cameras with manual operation are ok), a laptop computer with at least 1 GB of RAM, a means to download your files from your camera/memory card to the computer, a tripod, Photoshop, Photomatix Pro, and Nik HDR Efex Pro (free trials are available for these applications and I have a 15% discount code available for Photomatix, or if you would like to purchase Photomatix Pro in advance, use the code "BluePlanetPhoto" on checkout).
