Some say the south coast of Oregon is the best part of the Oregon coastline. I think it's all great. Our area of operation will be based in Bandon and extend north to Oregon Dunes and maybe as a far south as Gold Beach. We'll definitely hit the hot spots; Bandon Beach, Wizard's Hat, Face Rock, Shore Acres, Port Orford, Secret Beach, Cape Arago, and more, with lighthouses, forest trails, and tidepools in between.

At most locations we will have the opportunity for both sunrise and sunset as well as plenty of time to explore and find hidden gems. We'll mostly concentrate on sunsets, so late evenings will be expected.

Some trails to the beaches are moderately steep to steep and footing is uneven, sandy, and/or slick both on trails and beaches (rocks) You should be able to negotiate this type of terrain to get the most from this trip. If you have questions, please contact me prior to registering for this trip.

Daily reviews of images in the field and assistance with camera operation, composition, and exposure as you work will be commonplace, as well as practice with long exposure, filter use (polarizer, neutral density, graduated neutral density, etc.), image processing when possible, along with all sorts of discussions about photography and art and stuff.

To get the most from this workshop you should be capable of hiking over sandy, uneven, and hilly ground for distances of up to 2 miles round trip on easy to moderately-steep trails. We will be photographing in the mornings and evenings, but may occur all day depending on conditions.

Getting There: Bandon is a little off the beaten path. The nearest airport is Eugene (EUG, 2.5 hrs drive), and all the major airlines fly into there. Portland (PDX) is a 4.5 hr drive to Bandon. I will likely fly into Eugene, so if you want to avoid the cost of a rental car, that would be your gateway city. I would be arriving in the morning of the 1st day, so you would need to coordinate your arrival to Eugene before noon to take advantage of the on-site transportation.
